Hot, Hot, Hot! Sizzling Tips to Boost Sales This Summer

Suffering from a summer slump with your business? These tips will help you boost sales and get your business chugging right along!

1. Take a Long, Hard Look at Your Marketing

You’re diligent about marketing, but do you have any idea whether it’s actually working or not? Spend some time immersed in your analytics to see which marketing channels are sending you traffic, and which traffic is actually converting to sales.

If, for example, you’ve been using Google + to reach your audience and it isn’t sending any traffic to your online marketplace, you can drop that channel in favor of something more effective.

2. Perfect the Promotion

We know that promotions boost sales, but are you aware of which promotions are most appealing to your customers? Again, data will give you the answers you need, but try testing out a few. Here are some ideas:

  • Buy one get one free (or get one discounted)
  • Free gift with purchase
  • Coupon code for 20%
  • Post-purchase discount for next purchase

3. Incentivize Customers to Talk About You

Social media is such an amazing tool to help you reach more people. And people are spending a lot of time on sites like Facebook and Instagram in the summer (it’s too hot to do anything else!). Set up a promotion where, in exchange for telling their friends about you on social media, you’ll give customers credit or a discount. The more friends they get to buy from you, the more credit they get!

4. Hold a Fun Contest

Another strategy that’s effective on social media — particularly Instagram — is to hold a contest. You can ask customers to share a photo of them with your product using a customized hashtag for the contest. You can choose a winner and give them prizes. People love entering contests, and the more people that do, the more people you can reach.

5. Set Up a Subscription

Depending on what type of products you sell, you can boost sales through subscriptions. Think about Birchbox or Amazon Subscribe and Save. Both are killer examples of how you can capture a long-term customer. Most people will continue to let the auto-pay happen each month and will happily accept the products you send.

This could work for a monthly shipment of:

  • Baked goods or candy
  • Socks
  • Makeup
  • Jewelry

6. Send Strategic Emails

Getting people to buy from your emails is all about timing: if you send them at just the right time, you’ll see a higher click-through rate and conversion to sales.

Here are some instances that can boost sales for your business:

  • Email a few hours after someone puts an item in their cart and doesn’t purchase it
  • Follow up after a purchase with a discount
  • Follow up after a purchase with a complementary item on sale
  • Email with item customer has favorited that is on sale

7. Try Online Advertising

Advertising your store online can be cost-effective, and it’s definitely worth testing out. You can try pay-per-click ads like Google AdWords or hook up with an ad network like RocketFuel that gets your ad on targeted websites.

Summertime doesn’t have to suck when it comes to sales. What tactics have you used to boost sales?
